Review:
24/7 Solitaire is a Compilation of 24 types of Solitaire Card Games and 7 configurations of Peg Solitaire Puzzles (thus the game’s title). This game was released on Nintendo DSi via the DSiWare service in 2010 and then grandfathered into the Nintendo 3DS eShop when that system was released.
While this game’s title screen features a nice 3D rendering of a room inside a house, the game mostly uses pretty dull-looking 2D visuals backed by a decent relaxed synthesized theme. It’s not much, but it works well enough for the gameplay.
The included card games here are as follows: Klondike, FreeCell, Spider (along with One Suit and Two Suit variants), Double Klondike, Russian Solitaire, Sea Towers, Forty Thieves, Yukon, Penguin, Pyramid, Golf, Scorpion, Canfield, Aces Up, Rainbow, Beleaguered Castle, Four Seasons, Calculation, La Belle Luccie, Eight Off, Easthaven, and Fan. All in all, a mix of some popular types as well as some obscure ones. It’s a bit odd to see a Card Game that has Sea Towers, Scorpion, and La Belle Luccie, but not TriPeaks. Still, for only $5, it’s hard to complain.
There’s a good selection of features here, too, with multiple selectable options for each card game, an undo feature, and stat tracking, and players can control the card games using traditional gamepad controls or the touchscreen, both of which work well. There are instructions for the card games but no tutorials, and really the only other features I felt were missing here were scoring options and aesthetic options.
As for Peg Solitaire, there aren’t really different versions of the gameplay here so much as different peg layouts, and I doubt this will hold your interest for too long. It’s a nice extra, but the main draw here is clearly the Card Games.
All things considered, while 24/7 Solitaire is a bit bland in its presentation, it packs a good amount of value for a low price – there are a lot of Solitaire Card Games here that play well and have a good selection of options, and for $5, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better value when it comes to Solitaire Card Games on Nintendo 3DS, save for Classic Games Overload and its lesser $4 counterpart, [Best of Card Games](Best of Solitaire).
tl;dr – 24/7 Solitaire is a Compilation of 24 Solitaire Card Games and 7 versions of Peg Solitaire. The Peg Solitaire stuff is pretty disposable, and the package as a whole is somewhat lacking in its presentation, but there’s a good selection of Card Games here for the game’s low $5 price tag, with a solid assortment of options and features. If you want to add an inexpensive Card Game collection to your Nintendo 3DS, this is a good choice.
