Review:
3, 2, 1… WordsUp! is a word-based Puzzle game released on the Nintendo DSi via the DSiWare service in 2012, with the game also being made available on the Nintendo 3DS eShop. This game has players given a selection of seven letters and trying to come up with as many words as possible that consist of four or more letters.
The presentation here is pretty simple. The top screen shows a still image of a fountain, and sometimes a list of words that you have found (along with hints at words you haven’t), while the bottom screen has the letters you’re using. This is backed by music that was likely intended to be relaxing, but which just comes across as annoying. And when each match starts, you hear a voice clip of a group of people saying “three… two… one… WordsUp!”
The gameplay here uses the touchscreen, and it doesn’t always feel like my touchscreen presses are detected, though this is thankfully a minor issue. Players can choose between one game mode where you have one set of letters you’re trying to build words with, and another game mode where you have a rapid-fire series of letters. Beyond that, there’s… not too much else I can say about this game.
I suppose there’s nothing wrong with 3, 2, 1… WordsUp!. It’s a decent enough Puzzle game. Only… well, games like this are a dime a dozen on mobile devices now, and 3, 2, 1 doesn’t have much in the way of options, such as the ability to use shorter words, or play in multiplayer. For only $2, this isn’t a terrible Puzzle game, but it’s not one that stands out in any way.
tl;dr – 3, 2, 1… WordsUp! is a word-based Puzzle game where players are given seven letters and they must come up with as many words as possible using those letters. It’s a perfectly decent Puzzle game, but it does nothing to stand out against countless other games just like it.
