Review:

Out Run is an Arcade-style Racing originally released in Arcades in 1986 and later ported to numerous other platforms over the years, including a release on Nintendo Switch as a part of the Sega Ages line of games. The 2015 Nintendo 3DS release of the game, meanwhile, adds stereoscopic 3D. Players race along a branching series of highways, reacting to turns and traffic.

By today’s standards, this is a pretty simple game, but it still has quite a bit of charm to it, with colorful visuals and decent crash animations. By today’s standards, the game is also absurdly hard, and players new to the game will definitely want to go into the menus to adjust the difficulty and time limit settings.

The Nintendo 3DS release of the game adds a few extra features, such as save states, sound and display settings (including a “new version” mode that smooths out the visuals), and the option to use the touchscreen to move instead of the standard controls (which seems pointless).

Overall, Out Run is a decent old-school arcade racer, and while it has aged some since it was a hit in arcades, it’s still a decent nostalgia trip for anyone wanting to give it a shot.

tl;dr – Out Run is a classic Arcade-Style Racing game that’s a bit archaic, and absurdly difficult, but still fun to play even today.
