Review:

5 in 1 Solitaire is a Compilation of five types of Solitaire Card Games released on Wii and on the Nintendo DSi via the DSiWare service in 2010 and then grandfathered into the Nintendo 3DS eShop when that system was released, with a version coming to PlayStation Portable in 2011. The card games included here are Klondike, FreeCell, Spider, Golf, and Gaps.

The presentation here is extremely simple, with relaxed music that fits the tone of the game well and simple 2D visuals without any options to change the look of the background or cards. In short, there’s not much here, but what’s here works well enough.

For the games themselves, you do have some rule settings, like choosing the number of cards to draw in Klondike or the suits in Spider, but this game lacks others, like the ability to set up scoring rules. However, to this game’s credit it includes full interactive tutorials for all of the included games.

There’s one other issue for me to address here, and that is the game’s touchscreen-only controls. These mostly work fine, but sometimes the game refuses to recognize a tap, requiring you to tap multiple times to be detected, which can be annoying.

In the end, for only $2, this is a decent collection of Solitaire Card Games, and the inclusion of tutorials is much-appreciated. With a few more options, skins, and better controls, this could have been an exceptional little Compilation, but as-is it’s still a pretty good buy for those looking to add an inexpensive collection of Solitaire games to their Nintendo 3DS, this should more than suffice.

tl;dr – 5 in 1 Solitaire is a Compilation of 5 Solitaire Card Games – Klondike, FreeCell, Spider, Golf, and Gaps. There are multiple areas where this collection could do with improvement, but the games are mostly done well here, with some good tutorials. For only $2, you could do far worse than this package if you’re looking to add some Solitaire games to your Nintendo 3DS.
