Review:

Arc Style: Solitaire is a Compilation of two types of Solitaire Card Games released in 2014 on the Nintendo 3DS. Those two card games are Klondike and Monte Carlo.

The presentation here is a mix of okay and just plain terrible. On the one hand, you have some decent 2D art for card designs and backgrounds, and players can unlock alternate art as they play the game. On the other hand, none of these designs is particularly inspired or visually interesting, and the game’s background music is absolutely horrible, and there’s no way to change it. You’ll be muting this game very quickly.

The card games themselves don’t really make up for the lacking presentation, either. The game’s touchscreen controls are finicky and often don’t work as intended, and when you accidentally pick up the wrong card and try to place it, you’ll get an annoying noise reminding you that this is an illegal move. Even if you do this process correctly, it still takes far longer than it should, since the cards “stick” to each other in an odd way.

You do at least have some options here, but not nearly enough. Klondike lets you choose to play with Draw One, Draw Three, and Five Passes rules, and Monte Carlo lets you play with 7-K, A-10, and All Cards rules, and there are hint options in-game too. However, there’s no way to keep a consistent score.

And let’s just lay all of our cards on the table here (ha), because in a world where players can get Classic Games Overload: Card and Puzzle Edition for $30 with virtually every standard Solitaire Card Game imaginable $3 for this pair of games with poor controls and a terrible presentation just doesn’t seem like a good deal at all. And if you’re aiming for cheap, there are better options on the Nintendo 3DS too. In other words, there’s just no good reason to get Arc Style: Solitaire. Buy something else instead.

tl;dr – Arc Style: Solitaire is a Compilation of two types of Solitaire Card Games – Klondike and Monte Carlo. Unfortunately, the versions included here have an annoying presentation, terrible controls, and not enough options to make up for these other issues. There are too many better Solitaire Card Games on Nintendo 3DS to bother with this bad one.
