Review:

Blasting Agent is an Action-Platformer released on PC, Nintendo 3DS, and Wii U in 2016, with a port to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita in 2017. This game has players playing as… er, a guy with a gun… fighting against a horde of enemies we’re told works for a terrorist organization called The Black Hand of Fate.

Blasting Agent makes use of fairly simple pixel art visuals. These aren’t especially detailed or well-animated, but they get the job done well enough, or they would if it wasn’t for problems this game has with a distracting shuddering when you move around. On the bright side, this game’s chiptune soundtrack is surprisingly catchy. However, the overall impression here is not a great one.

As for the gameplay, this is a fairly straightforward Action-Platformer. I suppose at the very least there is some minimal exploration players can opt to do in the game’s levels to find upgrades for their gun and their health, but for the most part, the action here is simple, the enemy AI is dumb, and everything moves somewhat slowly which makes it easier to avoid enemy shots and anticipate their patterns.

Overall for a $3 game I suppose Blasting Agent isn’t horrible, but the performance issues when the game is already visually unimpressive seem inexplicable. If you’re looking for a cheap Action-Platformer, this one will work, but it’s not going to blow anyone away, despite the game’s title.

tl;dr – Blasting Agent is an Action-Platformer with a retro-style pixel art presentation. There’s nothing particularly unique or special about the game, but for $3 it gets the job done… or at least it almost does, with irritating screen shuddering issues in spite of the simple presentation. For the cheap price, you may still get some enjoyment out of this game, but don’t expect anything extraordinary here.
