Review:

City Skaters is an Auto-Runner released on Nintendo 3DS in 2020. Players take the role of a skateboarder jumping over rooftops, collecting coins and trying to dodge police and hazards.

This game uses simple 2D visuals for its presentation, and they are pretty underwhelming. This is a budget game that looks like a budget game. It features a generic hip hop-inspired soundtrack, and overall it just looks and sounds cheap and forgettable.

When it comes to the gameplay, this is mostly just a generic Auto-Runner. Players have a mid-air jump that’s inconsistent – sometimes you can jump twice, sometimes three times. Also, the randomized level design often places coins in places there’s no way you’d be able to get them without dying. Overall, it feels really sloppy.

In fact, in one way this game feels especially sloppy, and that is that every time you start a run, there is an absurd delay where you character starts going and you can’t see them for a few seconds, potentially putting you in danger. When it finally cuts to your character in motion, it’s jarring, and the overall experience this creates is that this is a really poorly-constructed game.

In the end, Auto-Runner games are a dime a dozen, and City Skaters does little to distinguish itself from the crowd. What’s worse, it looks ugly, feels poorly-constructed and buggy, and the result just isn’t very fun. Skip this one.

tl;dr – City Skaters is an Auto-Runner where players take the role of a skateboarder jumping over rooftops and dodging cops and obstacles. It looks ugly, doesn’t do much to distinguish itself, and overall just feels poorly put-together. Skip this one.
