Comic Workshop 2
Genre: Art Application
Players: 1

Review:
Comic Workshop 2 is an Application released on the Nintendo 3DS in 2015. And this title will feel very familiar to those who played Comic Workshop 1, as it’s mostly the exact same thing, but with a few extra features and $2 added to the price tag. As such, I will be copying much of the text of my review of the first Comic Workshop.
While primarily intended for the creation of comic art, Comic Workshop 2 is a pretty versatile Art Creation tool, where players can create artwork and save it to their MicroSD card to transfer off of the Nintendo 3DS.
There’s a pretty decent selection of tools available here, including layers, zoom tools, copy-paste, flip and rotate, blur, and the ability to create speech bubbles and text. Many of these functions are explained in handy interactive tutorials you can access from the game’s opening menu.
The second Comic Workshop adds a few new tools into this collection, including a new gradient fill tool and “saturated linework” tool, as well as the ability to create your own custom in-app stamps. This release also boasts having faster response times and better color blending, but if this was true I didn’t notice a difference.
Once again, It would have been nice if the software’s tutorials explained the basic function of the game’s “clean copy” system, where you are meant to storyboard and layout your page first before being able to do more detailed work and color, as well as having access to most of the software’s tools.
Still, this is overall a very good Art Creation Application on Nintendo 3DS, and particularly if you want to create comic-style art on the go, this is worth looking into. I suppose if you wanted to save a few bucks, you could go for the first Comic Workshop instead, But on balance I think it’s probably worth it to pay a little more to get the extra functionality in this sequel… but not if you’ve already purchased the first Comic Workshop.
tl;dr – Comic Workshop 2 is an Application for art creation, with a specific focus on comic-style art. The second Comic Workshop Application costs a little more and has a few extra features over the first one, but these two are pretty similar. Between the two, I think Comic Workshop 2 is slightly better, but not so much that you should buy it again if you already got the first one.
