Review:
Crollors Game Pack is a $1 Compilation of four Arcade-style games released on Nintendo 3DS in 2017. These games are of various types, but all are simple Arcade-style games apparently made for this release.
Here is what I thought of each of the games in this collection:
| Game | Genre | # of Players | Grade |
|---|---|---|---|
| Space Shooter | Shmup | 1 | D- |
tl;drThis is about and dull and boring as space shooters get. Slow-paced, slow progression, slow shooting, slow movement, and you don’t even control your ship’s firing. This is only saved from an “F” grade because it technically functions, but i can’t fathom anyone truly enjoying it. | |||
| Dotch It | Arcade | 1 | C- |
tl;drA simple game where you need to avoid moving balls by dodging around on a 3×3 grid. It’s enjoyable in a simple, limited way, but it’s telling that I personally designed a game that was very much like this and far more complex and enjoyable (if I do say so myself) using Game Builder Garage (Dodgy Dave in Cannonball Cave, Project ID G 002 PM7 TRD). | |||
| Color Switch | Arcade | 1 | F |
tl;drThis game plays like a vertically-oriented Flappy Bird, but requires absolute precision timing to the point where you’ll likely barely only last for a few seconds before dying and needing to start over. Not fun. | |||
| Zig-Zag Ball | Arcade | 1 | D- |
tl;drExceedingly simple to the point of mind-numbing boredom, this game has you turning a ball left and right on a zig-zagging path while trying not to fall off. The game adds a few other elements like lights that turn off, but this feels more like an annoyance than a test of skill. | |||
All things considered… not good. Not good at all. The best game of the lot here is Dotch It, and even that is an exceedingly simple game that I was able to design a better version of… and I’m not a game designer!
The game uses very simple 3D visuals, has an ugly interface, and energetic but generic and forgettable music. Oh, it also has extremely frustrating menus that can only be navigated using the touchscreen, despite that the gameplay itself uses traditional gamepad controls.
Look, I know it’s only $1, but Crollors Game Pack is an absolute mess. It’s three bad games and one sub-par game, and while the price tag is miniscule, you’d be better off saving your dollar and putting it towards an actual good game.
tl;dr – Crollors Game Pack is a $1 Compilation of four different Arcade-style games, but three of those games are terrible, with the remaining one only sub-par at best. Even at $1, this Game Pack probably isn’t worth it.
Grade: D
