Review:
Doodle Fit is a family-friendly Puzzle game released on PlayStation Portable in 2011, as well as the Nintendo DSi via the DSiWare service a few months later, as well as being released on the Nintendo 3DS eShop. This game has players fitting shapes into a designated area.
The presentation in Doodle Fit uses a presentation that has 2D visuals that look like pencil and crayon scribbles, backed by a light, whimsical soundtrack. It’s nothing particularly outstanding, but it’s at least somewhat unique in the Puzzle game space.
The gameplay here is all played in “book mode”, with the Nintendo 3DS turned sideways. Players have a selection of shapes on the left, and they use the touchscreen to fill in areas on a grid analogous to those shapes, with the goal for each level being to fill in a specific designated area. In other words, this is yet another tangram puzzle, something you’ve undoubtedly seen countless times in various forms over the years.
Does Doodle Fit do what it sets out to do? Sure, I suppose. But this is a style of Puzzle game that we’ve seen countless times over the years, and there’s not really anything significant that sets this game apart from the rest. If you really enjoy Tangram-style puzzles, you might find this one worth the $5 it costs, but most will quickly grow bored with it.
tl;dr – Doodle Fit is a family-friendly Puzzle game that has you trying to fit puzzle pieces into pre-defined shapes. In other words, this is yet another Tangram puzzle, and not a particularly noteworthy one, either. It’s not bad, but even for the low $5 price, you can do better.
