Review:

All Breaker is a Platformer released on the Nintendo DSi via the DSiWare service in 2015, as well as being made available on the Nintendo 3DS eShop. This game has players evading enemies and using a large hammer to break apart specific blocks in each of the game’s levels.

The presentation in this game uses 2D pixel art visuals backed by decent but repetitive synthesized music. It’s nothing special, but it gets the job done.

For the gameplay, this game almost plays like a Puzzle-Platformer, where part of the task is figuring out how to safely get to the blocks you need to destroy. To this end, the level design makes good use of the tools at its disposal, and players are regularly introduced to new enemies and new types of blocks that they need to approach thoughtfully so they can reach all their targets without dying.

This is actually this game’s biggest problem, because it has some nasty difficulty spikes, and often trains players how to tackle a challenge by throwing them in the deep end, showing them a new obstacle and giving them very little time to get acquainted with it before they need to thoroughly understand it to survive. Making things worse, this game is extremely unforgiving – taking a single hit will kill you, and your lives are extremely limited.

Because of this, it’s hard for me to give All Breaker the strong recommendation I’d kinda’ like to. Make no mistake, there’s some good gameplay here, but this is such an unforgiving game, I think only skilled players looking for a challenge will truly appreciate it. That said, if you are a skilled player looking for a challenge, this game’s $2 price tag makes this an enticing buy, and well worth getting if steep difficulty spikes don’t scare you.

tl;dr – All Breaker is a Platformer that has players aiming to break specific blocks in each of the game’s levels while evading obstacles and enemies. The core gameplay here is excellent, but there’s a pretty steep difficulty curve that makes this a game that only more skilled players will appreciate. However, if you are one of those players seeking a challenge, I think you’ll find the low $2 price tag well worth it here.
