Review:

D-Tank is an Arcade-style game released on the Nintendo DSi via the DSiWare service in 2011 as well as being made available on the Nintendo 3DS eShop. In this game, players control a tank shooting at enemies from a Top-Down perspective while either guarding a target those enemies are trying to destroy or taking down a fortified enemy target.

The presentation in this game uses simple 2D pixel art visuals backed by a decent but forgettable soundtrack. There’s nothing bad here, but nothing especially interesting or memorable either.

For the gameplay, players control their tank’s movement using the D-Pad, and rotate its turret using the L and R buttons, firing and placing down bombs using the face buttons. All of this game’s action takes place on single-screen stages, and players technically have infinite lives to complete their objectives, only losing points when they die, and failure only happens when a target you’re defending is destroyed or when a timer runs out in a level where you’re attacking an enemy target.

All of this works fine. Unfortunately, the small single-screen setup doesn’t seem to leave much room for any decent variety or fun discoveries, and the game is also extraordinarily short, with individual missions only lasting a few minutes tops, and with only a small number of missions to fight in.

Given D-Tank’s small $2 price tag, the game’s shortness can be somewhat forgiven, but its blandness and lack of variety can’t be dismissed so easily. It’s a shame there’s just not much meat on these bones, because the bones themselves are perfectly sound. However, even with this being the case, I doubt that many will want to spend too much time with this game.

tl;dr – D-Tank is an Arcade-style game where players control a tank in Top-Down single-screen missions that have you either defending a target from enemies or taking out an enemy target. The gameplay here is fine, but this game is far too short and lacking in variety or originality to be especially noteworthy, even for the low $2 price tag. Odds are good that most players will lose interest in this game fairly quickly.
