Review:

Throw Out is a Sports-style game that loosely resembles Soccer released on the Nintendo DSi via the DSiWare service in 2015, as well as being made available on the Nintendo 3DS eShop. This game has teams of 5 robots competing to score goals with a ball while evading tackles.

The presentation in this game features some decent 2D pixel art visuals backed by repetitive energetic “sporty”-style music. It’s nothing particularly great or memorable, but it works well enough for the gameplay.

When it comes to that gameplay, players can use L and R to swap between their 4 robots on the field or tap Y to switch to their goalie, with the remaining robots being AI-controlled. Players can tackle opposing players, jump to avoid a tackle, or toss the ball to a teammate or to try to score a goal. I say “toss” because this game isn’t quite like soccer, as your team will physically carry the ball rather than kicking it.

Unfortunately, while the core gameplay mechanics here work well enough, everything still ends up being a mess. The view is a bit too close to the action, making it harder to determine where your teammates are. Also, it’s hard to keep track of which button changes to which teammate when it changes every time you swap, and you’ll need to change a lot because your AI teammates are really dumb, unable to understand how to move into a clear position to pass the ball to. And as with every game in the G.G series, Throw Out offers no multiplayer of any kind, so you’ll always have both a team and an enemy comprised of individuals plagued by this same dumb AI.

I don’t know what you may hope to find in a $2 soccer game with no multiplayer, but my guess is that you won’t find what you’re looking for in Throw Out. While the gameplay may be serviceable here, dumb AI in a team Sports game that won’t let you play with other humans is pretty damning. Don’t waste your time with this one.

tl;dr – Throw Out is a Soccer-like Sports-style game that has players controlling a team of robots competing with an opposing team to score goals. However, the AI in this game is so dumb here that the lack of any multiplayer means that this game seems pretty pointless. Skip it.
