Review:
Gaia’s Moon is a Single-Button Arcade-style game released on the Nintendo DSi via the DSiWare service in 2012 and also released on the Nintendo 3DS eShop. In this game, players use the A button to control the rise and fall of a character flying on a broomstick and getting them to avoid mid-air obstacles.
The visuals in this game are absolutely gorgeous, using 2D visuals with beautiful colors and some nice art design. I feel like one of the best reasons to play this game is to soak in all the great artwork. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for the music, which sounds juvenile and irritating, and quickly started to get on my nerves.
When it comes to the gameplay, for all its visual splendor, Gaia’s Moon is a really simple game. Hold A to rise into the air, release it to fall, that’s it. You gradually lose energy as you go and need to collect orbs of light to recharge, with this also doubling as your health. And that’s… pretty much it. The game does toss different types of obstacles at you as you progress, but in the end you’re just rising and falling.
Players wanting to play this game with a friend will likely be amused by this game’s multiplayer mode, which gives each player a side on the Nintendo DSi/Nintendo 3DS, and one screen. It’s a fun way to do multiplayer that works well for this game because the game is so simple.
In the end, I think that for $2 some players may want to get Gaia’s Moon just to enjoy the nice visuals, and if you can enjoy a simple Arcade-style game, you may find it well worth that low price. However, I can’t say I found the gameplay here especially compelling.
tl;dr – Gaia’s Moon is an Arcade-style game there players use a single button to control a character flying on a broomstick. The visuals in this game are excellent, but the gameplay is simple and not particularly noteworthy.
