Review:
High Stakes: Texas Hold’Em is a version of the popular Poker Card Game released on the Nintendo DSi via the DSiWare service in 2009 and then grandfathered into the Nintendo 3DS eShop when that system was released.
The presentation here is simple, with 2D visuals for the cards, some nice 3D visuals for the poker chips as you bet, and some annoying synthesized music during gameplay. On balance, it’s okay, but you’ll probably want to play the game on mute.
The Poker here plays well enough, I suppose, but there’s little in the way of options. The game only supports 4 players, which seems oddly limiting for a Poker game. There’s no way to set rule variants or anything like that, just the small and big blind dollar amounts and the amount of money the players start with. That’s it.
For $5, High Stakes: Texas Hold’Em seems pretty slim for a game that only has one type of poker. My advice to you is that if you want to get a Poker game on Nintendo 3DS, get Classic Games Overload. Not only does that game come with more options and features, but it’s one of hundreds of card games in that collection. By comparison, this is a huge rip-off.
tl;dr – High Stakes: Texas Hold’Em is a version of the popular Poker Card Game that’s extremely light on features, especially for a game that only includes one version of Poker. You’re better off getting Classic Games Overload instead and avoiding this overpriced game altogether.
