Review:
Kersploosh!, released on Nintendo 3DS in 2013, is an Arcade-style game where players guide a rock as it falls down an obstacle-filled well, trying to avoid said obstacles and direct the rock to fall through “donuts” and balloons to pick up bonuses.
This game’s presentation uses simple but reasonably-detailed 3D visuals to depict the rock, the well, and the obstacles, having objects fade in from the dark background as they come into range. This is backed by a lighthearted soundtrack that works well for the game. It’s nothing special, but for a $3 game this is pretty reasonably polished. I will add that this game does have brief but cute pseudo-story snippets before each level explaining why the rock is being dropped in the first place – a giggling teenage couple being playful, someone down on their luck disposing of what they see as a cursed object… these bits aren’t necessary to the game at all, but they do add a nice, fun little bit of personality into the mix.
As for the gameplay itself, there’s not really too much to say here. You’re just moving your object around, dodging obstacles and aiming for pickups. The game does add some variety with different wells to fall down that each have different obstacles, as well as the ability to unlock different stones that have different stats (durability, speed, maneuverability), but in the end, this really is just a game about moving on-screen to dodge onrushing obstacles.
I’m not sure there’s much more I can add here. Kersploosh is a pretty simple Arcade-style game, and it does exactly what it sets out to do well enough, but what it sets out to do isn’t anything especially mind-blowing. If you’re looking for a fun time-waster on Nintendo 3DS, I don’t think your $3 will be wasted here, even if this game isn’t likely to become a favorite either.
tl;dr – Kersploosh! is an Arcade-style game where players control a rock dropped down a well and try to get it to avoid obstacles. This is a decent time-waster, but there’s not much depth (ha). For $3, it’s a fun little distraction, but not a game you’re likely to play for long.
