Mario Calculator for Nintendo 3DS – Review

Review:

Mario Calculator is a Calculator Application released on the Nintendo DSi via the DSiWare service in 2009 and then grandfathered into the Nintendo 3DS eShop when that system was released. As the title indicates, this software is a calculator. You know, type in numbers, do equations, that sort of thing.

The presentation here features visuals from the classic Nintendo Entertainment System game Super Mario Bros., with no music whatsoever. Mario will jump and coins may pop out as you’re typing things in using the touchscreen, but that’s about as interactive as you’re going to get here. I suppose I should mention that there’s also a handy unit conversion tool included here too.

The problem of course is that this is the sort of app we all already have access to on our smartphones, albeit without Mario being involved. As such, I don’t know why you would spend $2 and waste precious space on your Nintendo 3DS for an app that does what you can undoubtedly do on your phone for free.

So… yeah, don’t buy Mario Calculator, not unless you want to own a $2 oddity on your Nintendo 3DS.

tl;dr – Mario Calculator is a Calculator Application that makes no sense to buy in a world where most people have a smartphone that can easily do the same thing for free. Unless you want this as some sort of memento, skip it.
