(Note: Before getting started, know that MyNotebook is not one release on Nintendo 3DS, it is six releases. I normally milk these to put out multiple reviews, but I’m actually trying to speed up this process, so just this once I’m collapsing this into one review. However, so you are aware, all six releases are very nearly the exact same software, save for different color schemes, the number of pages and unlockable paper styles that are available, release year, and the price – MyNotebook: Blue, MyNotebook: Green, and MyNotebook: Red all have 32 pages and 18 paper styles available and came out in 2009 priced at $2 each, while MyNotebook: Carbon, MyNotebook: Pearl, and MyNotebook: Tab all have 128 pages each, feature 24 unlockable paper styles, and came out in 2010 priced at $5 each.)

MyNotebook is an Application released on the Nintendo DSi via the DSiWare service in 2009 and 2010 (depending on which color-coded version we’re talking about) and then grandfathered into the Nintendo 3DS eShop when that system was released. As you might guess, MyNotebook is an Application that lets you use your Nintendo DSi/Nintendo 3DS as a Notebook.

This application is used in “book mode” with your Nintendo 3DS turned sideways, and players can use their touchscreen to write or draw whatever they want in that page, which they can alter to look blank, lined, or like graph paper. Also, if you can any of the MyNotebook applications, you can unlock additional customizations.

I suppose you could look at this title as an Art Application, though it lacks many of the features you would expect from an Art Application, since you only have a few brush sizes and only four colors to choose from when writing or drawing. And if you look at this as a way to take down notes, I can’t help but think that it’s going to be easier and more efficient for you to just do that on your smartphone.

In the end, there’s just not much use for MyNotebook anymore, not in a world where everyone has a powerful computerized device in their pocket. Unless you want a fun little curio added to your Nintendo 3DS, skip this one.

tl;dr – MyNotebook is an Application (well, technically it’s six applications, all separately purchasable in different colors) that lets users turn their Nintendo 3DS into their own personal notebook. The problems is, as a drawing application it is far outclassed by numerous other Apps on the Nintendo 3DS, and as a note-taking app it’s nowhere near as practical as your own smartphone. Unless you just find the idea of having this software on your Nintendo 3DS amusing, skip it.
