Review:

Rabbids Travel In Time 3D is a Platformer released on Nintendo 3DS in 2011. This game is not to be confused with Raving Rabbids Travel Through time, released on Wii in 2010 – the two games play completely differently, even if they’re named and packaged similarly. As the name implies, this game has players going to different time periods as one of the screaming rabbit-like Rabbid characters using a time-traveling washing machine.

The presentation in this game is generally pretty good, with some decent detail in the colorful 3D environments and good animation for the 3D Rabbid characters. Having said that, you can see some of the seams showing – the backgrounds often appear as blurry static images, animated background elements sometimes pop in and out in a jarring fashion, and the Rabbid characters are somewhat small and seem to be somewhat low-poly. It’s nothing game-breaking, but it isn’t particularly impressive either. These visuals are backed by fittingly bouncy music and of course the constant ridiculous screaming of the Rabbids themselves. This isn’t going to wow anyone, but it works.

The same can be said for the Platforming gameplay. This game doesn’t really do anything especially unique or interesting, but it works. Run, jump, melee attack enemies, collect various thingys strewn throughout the game’s levels, you know the drill. The levels themselves are somewhat repetitive, but beyond that there’s little that’s especially good or bad that I can say about them.

Given the Rabbids’ frequent role as the stars of Party Games, Platforming may be out of their norm, but it’s still something that could have been a way to expand the franchise. However, Travel In Time 3D is really only interested in doing the bare minimum to be a decent, inoffensive Platformer. It largely succeeds in that goal, but it’s not a very ambitious goal. Unless you absolutely love the Rabbids characters, there’s not much here to entice you over the countless other better Platformers on the Nintendo 3DS.

tl;dr – Rabbids Travel Through Time 3D (not to be confused with the Wii game, which is totally different) is a Platformer starring the screaming rabbit-like Rabbid creatures, and as Platformers go, this is… fine. A bit repetitive, but fine. However, the lack of anything truly inventive or interesting to set this game apart, there’s very little reason to recommend it over numerous other better Platformers on the Nintendo 3DS. Unless you love the Rabbids franchise, stick with those games instead.
