Review:
Space Hunted is an Arcade-style Action-Platformer released on the Wii U in 2017. In this game, players take the role of a treasure hunter in space, who must in each stage reach a small… UFO thing (or maybe it’s a pie? I can’t tell) and then get to an exit.
This game uses simple, 8-bit-style pixel art 2D visuals with a black background and simple character designs, backed by a chiptune soundtrack based on various Beethoven songs. Yeah, this developer (Ultra Dolphin Revolution) really likes their Beethoven.
The gameplay here is simple but not bad. Each stage is a single-screen Action-Platforming challenge in an old-school Arcade sorta’ way, but there’s a decent amount of variety to the stages here. In one stage, you may be getting the UFO and then running from a pursuing enemy, while in another you may have to shoot your way past enemies guarding the prize you’re after.
There’s nothing in Space Hunted that’s truly extraordinary, but for $3 this makes for a mildly entertaining old-school diversion. If you’re craving a retro-style game to add to your Wii U library, this might make for a decent diversion.
tl;dr – Space Hunted is an Arcade-style Action-Platformer where you need to pick up a UFO thing and reach an exit in each of the game’s single-screen levels. There’s nothing especially complex or original going on here, but there is at least a decent amount of variety. Players looking for something old-school in style may find this to be an interesting diversion.
