Review:

Spin Six is a family-friendly Puzzle game released on the Nintendo DSi via the DSiWare service in 2010, and later grandfathered into the Nintendo 3DS eShop when the Nintendo 3DS released. In this game, players are trying to spin 2×2 sections of a grid to line up numbers into rows or columns that match that number.

This game’s presentation is okay, using simple but appealing 2D visuals with a cartoony space-y theme. While these adorable visuals are endearing, they are unfortunately backed by an extremely annoying repetitive soundtrack. On the whole, this game’s presentation is fine, though you may want to mute this game if you’re playing it.

The gameplay itself is decent, reminiscent of Bejeweled Twist. I do think that the need for matches to consist of the same number of blocks as the number being matched seems unnecessarily cumbersome, but it’s not outright terrible.

If my feelings about this game seem somewhat lukewarm, it’s because… well, they are. This isn’t a bad Puzzle game, but it lacks that truly compelling must-play nature that the best games in the genre have. This game has plenty of features and modes, but no multiplayer.

I suppose, in the end, if you like Puzzle games, you’ll probably like Spin Six. But I also think you probably won’t love it. This game does a lot of things right, but doesn’t quite attain the “greatness” of the best games in the genre. For $5, it’s probably worth a look for Puzzle fans, but don’t expect too much from this.

tl;dr – Spin Six is a family-friendly Puzzle game where players are trying to spin 2×2 sections of a grid to line up numbers into rows or columns that match that number. This is a decent Puzzle game, but not a great one, with fun gameplay but nothing truly compelling, a good selection of game modes but no multiplayer. For $5, this may be worth checking out, but it’s not a must-have.
