Review:

Super Ultra Star Shooter is a Shmup released on the Wii U in 2017. This game has you flying through space, shooting aliens, and grabbing burgers, fries, and a soft drink as pickups.

This game uses simple, 8-bit-style pixel art 2D visuals with a black background and simple character designs, backed by a chiptune soundtrack based on various Beethoven songs. Yeah, this developer (Ultra Dolphin Revolution) really likes their Beethoven.

The gameplay here is extremely simple – shoot or avoid enemies, grab pickups as you come across them, and… well, that’s about it. There are different types of weapons you get get by grabbing different-colored pickups, but honestly I felt like the starting weapon was the best one

There’s just not any real depth or complexity to Super Ultra Star Shooter. As you can see, I’m having trouble even finding anything to say about it. While it’s technically playable, I have no idea why you would actually play it. There are far more satisfying Shmups out there, go play one of those instead.

tl;dr – Super Ultra Star Shooter is a Shmup that’s pretty bland and simple. There’s not much reason to go for this game over numerous other better Shmups on the market.
