Review:
Tap Tap Arcade, released on Wii U in 2016, is a Compilation of two simple Arcade-style games: Don’t Crash and Spikey Walls. With a price of $2, this Compilation is positioning itself as a value package, so of course the question that leads to is, what are you getting for that low price?
Here is what I thought of each of the games in this collection:
| Game | Genre | # of Players | Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Don’t Crash | Arcade | 1 | D |
tl;drDon’t Crash has players driving around a circular track with a Top-Down view, not controlling their car directly, but instead simply deciding when to change lanes using the A button. Using this, players must dodge the one other car on the track as it changes lanes back and forth while traveling the other direction. This game is far too simple and repetitive to be engaging for more than a few seconds before you’ll want to move on. | |||
| Spikey Walls | Arcade | 1 | F |
tl;drThis game is a terrible Flappy Bird clone, copying a game that was already pretty bad and making it worse with unresponsive controls and questionable hit detection. | |||
In short, both of these games are terrible. Don’t Crash is at least playable, but you will get bored within minutes of playing it, if you even last that long. And you will want to quit Spikey Walls almost immediately after starting it.
These games both use unimpressive and simplistic 2D visuals backed by a repetitive, annoying soundtrack. I suppose the only other thing of note I can add here is that this game strangely seems to require players to use the Wii U gamepad’s touchscreen to select a game, despite that neither of the included games uses the touchscreen.
Do I really need to say more? Even at $2, Tap Tap Arcade isn’t worth the price. Save your $2 and don’t waste your time with this pair of terrible games.
tl;dr – Tap Tap Arcade is a Compilation of two simple Arcade-style games, Don’t Crash and Spikey Walls. Don’t Crash is a dull and repetitive single-button Arcade game where you select which lane to be in while dodging a car going the other way, and Spikey Walls is an absolutely terrible Flappy Bird clone. Even at $2, this pair of games is not worth the price.
