Review:
Tappingo is a Puzzle game released on Nintendo 3DS in 2014. This game plays a bit like a Numberlink-style Puzzle game, but it has a different rule set. Players have a board full of colored tiles and blank spaces, and must extend out the colored tiles to fill the blank spaces to create a picture. Similar to a Numberlink Puzzle, each colored tile says the number of extra spaces it must fill, but unlike Numberlink, players may only extend the color in one direction, and it will continue indefinitely until it runs into another tile. As such, a part of the challenge is not only knowing where to extend these colors out to, but what order in which to do so.
The presentation here is decent but unspectacular, with simple 2D pixel art for the tiles on the bottom screen, and a simple 3D representation for those tiles on the top screen. The text is a bit small, so those with poor eyesight, consider yourselves warned. These visuals are backed by a playful and somewhat annoying synthesized soundtrack in the background.
As for the gameplay, this is decent, but simple and nothing extraordinary. One you’ve gotten a few of these puzzles under your belt, you’ll have a good feel for what the rest of the game has to offer. That actually might be one of the better selling points though, as this game offers over 100 puzzles for only $3.
As such, if you’re a Puzzle Game fan, Tappingo is probably worth getting. It won’t cost you much, and has enough content to keep you entertained for quite a while, even if it’s not likely to thrill you or surprise you.
tl;dr – Tappingo is a Puzzle game that’s similar to Numberlink Puzzles, having players extend out squares of color to fill in a picture. It’s simple and not likely to be anyone’s favorite Puzzle game, but it does what it does well enough, and for only $3 the 100+ puzzles this game contains make for a pretty good value. If you’re a Nintendo 3DS owner who likes Puzzle games, this will make a decent addition to your collection.
