Review:
The Queen TV-Game 2 is nominally an Arcade-style game released on Nintendo 3DS in 2020. I say “nominally” because the gameplay in this game is so minimal that it seems like what this is in reality is a concept album, as was the case with the Wii U game Daikon Set and this game’s predecessor, Love Hero.
The connection to Daikon Set seems particularly strong here, as this game is basically a rehash of that game’s minigame The Queen, where players either avoided bouncing balls on-screen, or used a paddle to bounce them back a la an Arcade-style Brick Breaker (only without the bricks). This is about as bare-bones as you get with gameplay, so don’t expect to find anything especially compelling here.
Unlike the earlier games in this loose series, none of this game’s chill, repetitive music really “clicks” with me either. It’s decent enough, but not really reason enough to seek out this game. The same goes for the extremely low-fi pixel art, which gives off a very “retro” vibe, but does little else of note. Honestly, the one best part of the presentation here is the somewhat mysterious, slightly-garbled digitized voice that plays in the game’s menus, lending this game an air of mystique (and swearing often enough to ensure this won’t be a family-friendly game).
Anyway, I just gave you my two cents, and I suppose if you wanted to, you could use that two cents to buy this game. That is literally what this title costs: $0.02. However, even at that negligible price, I’m not sure what you’d find compelling here beyond the unusual presentation elements like the digitized voiceovers in the game’s menus. I suppose if you view this as an art piece, you might find it worth the tiny price. Just don’t go in expecting a game you’ll enjoy.
tl;dr – The Queen TV-Game 2 is nominally an Arcade-style game, but really this is just some sort of strange art piece with lazy, repetitive gameplay slapped on top of it. At a cost of only two pennies, you might find this interesting enough to give it a look, but don’t expect anything resembling a good game here.
