Review:

Vazial Saga XX, released on PC and Nintendo Switch in 2022, is a Turn-Based Strategy game… probably.

Look, I’ll just say right now, this is not going to be a normal review. If you’re wondering why, it’s because I’m trying to review this game even though I haven’t really played it. I can’t play it. Check out the game’s page on Nintendo.com and you may see why. Go ahead, take a look, I’ll wait.

You find it? I wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t. I didn’t see it until after I had already spent my hard-earned money on the game. Down at the very bottom of the game’s description, after clicking “Read More”, you’ll find the words “This game only supports Japanese”. This small seemingly throwaway line means that the majority of players in America won’t be able to play this game, much the same as me. Because everything in this game is in Japanese.

I’ve reviewed a few Japanese-language games on eShopperReviews before. One of the best games on the Nintendo Switch Online’s Super Nintendo app in my opinion is Panel de Pon, a Japanese-language only game, which is still perfectly playable if you muddle through a few menus to get to the meat of the game. The difference here is that this is a Turn-Based Strategy game, menus are the meat of the game here. Menu after menu after menu of Japanese-language text.

So, with this being the case, what can I say about Vazial Saga XX? Well, it has some decent character art. And the synthesized soundtrack is not especially catchy. And… um… that’s about it.

So, unique review, unique grade. I’m going to have to give Vazial Saga XX a grade of “N/A”, because for me the game is simply unreviewable. I could have opted to simply not review it then, but I felt like it was important to warn others here about this game. If you cannot read Japanese, under no circumstances should you waste your money on this unplayable game. For you fellow non-Japanese speakers, consider this game to be getting an “F” grade from me. And for those who do read Japanese, I apologize for not reviewing a game you could play. We all have our limits, I suppose.

tl;dr – Vazial Saga XX is a Turn-Based Strategy game that does not have an English-language option. It is just menus and menus and menus of Japanese text. As such, for most players in America, this game will be virtually unplayable. Don’t waste your money on it.

Grade: N/A (F)

This game has been nominated for one or more of eShopperReviews 2022 Game Awards:

Winner:

Worst Game – I technically did not review this game. Could not review it. Because this is a Japanese-only language game published on the US eShop with nothing but a small footnote on the game’s page indicating this. But everything I can tell points to an ugly, boring game. But hey, maybe that’s jumping to conclusions. I’ll tell you what, if the publisher ever actually properly localizes the game, we’ll see. Until then, I’m perfectly satisfied assuming this is a piece of trash, because all the benefit of the doubt I had was used up when I was tricked into buying this game in the first place.

Most Overpriced ($34) – They couldn’t even be bothered to properly localize this ugly piece of trash (a fact they seem to be trying to hide), and they want to charge $34 for it? I suppose at the very least I can be grateful because this means that fewer people probably bought it.
