Review:
Watermelon Blocks is an Auto-Runner released on PC in 2021 and ported to Nintendo Switch in 2022. Players guide a block of watermelon through courses made of watermelon while picking up slices of watermelon before heading to an exit. Why watermelon? Dunno, I guess this game’s creator just really liked watermelon.
The presentation here is pretty bland, featuring repetitive pixel art visuals, an annoying repetitive song that sounds like generic circus music, and absolutely no sounds whatsoever. Ugh.
This game isn’t going to win anyone over with its gameplay, either. This is a pretty dull Auto-Runner that has a wall jump, some blocks that switch with a button press, and nothing else of note going on for it. It functionally works,, but it has nothing original to offer.
That’s pretty much all there is to say here. This is a completely disposable, forgettable Auto-Runner. Its gameplay is functional (even if its presentation is terrible), but it does nothing noteworthy with its gameplay. The Nintendo Switch has plenty of Auto-Runners, including some genuinely good ones, don’t waste time and money on this.
tl;dr – Watermelon Blocks is an Auto-Runner where the character, pickups, and stages are all made of watermelon. Beyond that, there’s nothing all that interesting or original here. Skip this one.
