Review:

Wondershot is an Arcade-style Party Game game designed to be a multiplayer battle arena of sorts, where up to four players shoot arrows, use slingshots, and toss boomerangs at each other or various enemies. In theory, this is a great formula for a party game – in fact Towerfall has a fair amount of similarities to this game, and it’s fantastic. However, this game is not Towerfall.

For starters, this game uses a top-down view and players can apparently only hold one weapon at a time. And to be clear, this means that every time you fire off a single shot at an enemy, you need to go grab your weapon again or track down another, unless you manage to hit your enemy, in which case it’s returned to you.

Towerfall also had a similar mechanic of chasing down ammunition that was in very limited supply, but at the very least there you could fire off multiple shots before you ran empty. Here, potentially every time you fire a shot, you need to go hunt down a weapon. Yeah, not fun.

On top of this, the game has awkward controls. It seems ideally set up to be a two-stick shooter, but the controls don’t work that way at all, and the end result is a game where aiming is of utmost importance, where aiming is awkward.

In the end, for an action-based party game, Wondershot feels short on action, and it’s lacking much of the joy you’d associate with parties. If you’re looking for a good party game on the Switch, you have better options.

tl;dr – Wondershot is an Arcade-Style Party game where up to four players shoot arrows at each other, and then have to go run after those arrows when they miss. Which can work (and does in Towerfall), but here the controls are wonky and every single shot can be one that requires you to go running after another weapon. Don’t bother with this one.
