Review:
World Soccer is a Soccer game that’s just… this game is bad. Sorry, I literally could not think of anything else to say about this game that wasn’t a criticism.
The graphics are terrible. The game’s description on the eShop reads “Step onto the football pitch in the fully packed stadium”, but the stands are empty, the field is a hazy low-resolution mess, and the players are all low-poly with terrible animations, and these terrible graphics are paired with sound that’s oddly quiet.
The gameplay is equally as poorly-crafted. Characters don’t seem to have any hit detection with each other, meaning that they can overlap. And the AI is staggeringly dumb – on many occasions, one of them just stood by and watched while I slowly moved the ball right past them.
However, this game’s biggest flaw is how it automatically chooses which player on your team you’ll be playing at any given time, and you don’t seem to have any choice in the matter, or even when your player swaps out. It’s all a crapshoot here.
The Nintendo Switch desperately needs good sports games, especially with companies like EA so consistently dropping the ball (no pun intended), but terrible shovelware (being sold for $10, no less!) isn’t the answer, and World Soccer shouldn’t be bought by even the most desperate of soccer fans.
tl;dr – World Soccer is a terrible Soccer game. Bad graphics, bad sound, bad AI, bad controls… this game gets pretty much nothing right. Do not buy it.
