Review:

Timber Tennis Versus is an Arcade-style Tennis game simplified to the most bare-bones representation of that sport – players can move left or right into one of five columns, and if they’re in the right spot when the ball comes their way, they’ll automatically hit it to the other side.

The presentation here combines a variety of pixel art locations and players (all interchangeable with no effect on the gameplay) with forgettable music and an annoying announcer who repeats the same few phrases over and over again, those phrases not even completely making sense – every time someone scores a point, for example, he announces” Ball lost!”. You will grow tired of hearing “Ball lost!” so very, very quickly.

As for the gameplay, while I can appreciate a simplified game, what’s here isn’t very engaging. Players have to tap a direction each time they want to move a column and cannot simply hold the button down, making movements stiff and clumsy, especially if you have to move all the way from one side to the other. This is paired with the frequent appearance of bonus items that felt far too arbitrary to be fun – often they felt ineffectual or completely overpowered, and the lack of much control over your character, the ball, and the way these power-ups work makes it all feel like a crapshoot.

In the end, Timber Tennis Versus presents an interesting idea, but one that’s frustrating to play, lacking anything resembling depth, and featuring a presentation that will have you quickly looking for the “off” button. Skip this game.

tl;dr – Timber Tennis Versus is an Arcade-style Tennis game where players move back and forth across five columns to automatically hit the ball. The gameplay here is shallow and frustrating, and the presentation is ugly and annoying. Don’t bother.
