Review:
Tennis Go is a Tennis game. That’s about all I can say before getting into the negative stuff.
Visually, this game is pretty awful, with characters that look like someone’s first attempt at using a 3D modeling software, a flat ugly environment devoid of any textures, and awkward animations. This is paired with awkward sound effects to create an all-around terrible presentation.
As far as the gameplay goes, players walk around a tiny court (and for some reason are restricted to within its bounds) hitting the ball back and forth, but the game plays fast and loose with the rules of tennis, not really caring about sides (you serve from the center to wherever), about traditional tennis scoring (it looks like it’s just a contest to see who can get to 9 points first), and with controls that often don’t register you pressing the button to swing the racket, leading to feeling like you have to mash the button to even get it to register.
This is paired with a complete lack of options – you can choose your “character” (all of them simple and ugly) and that’s it. There’s no progression, no multiplayer, no nuance.
To say that Tennis Go is an unfinished game is an understatement. The person who made this game appears to know nothing about 3D modeling, nothing about game design, nothing about other tennis games on the market, and nothing about the actual game of tennis. It’s absurd that this game is being sold in its current state, and outright insulting that it’s being sold for $9 – I bought this game on sale for under $2 and still feel like I was robbed. Don’t make the same mistake I did – do not buy this game.
tl;dr – Tennis Go is a Tennis game that gets absolutely nothing right. Terrible graphics, unresponsive controls, a complete lack of features, and the game doesn’t even seem to understand how tennis is actually played. Do not buy this game, it’s trash.
