Review:

The Bug Butcher is an Arcade-style game designed in the style of the classic game Super Buster Bros. You play a futuristic exterminator summoned to a space station to eradicate an infestation of alien bugs that bounce, float and shoot projectiles, and do various other things, as you run back and forth along the ground shooting up at them.

The gameplay here is fittingly fast-paced and surprisingly varied. You’ll find that avoiding the bugs on the ground while shooting them out of the air is a fun challenge as you’re steadily introduced to new elements on a consistent basis, ranging from new types of bugs to unique environmental hazards. The game does a good job of mixing things up, and even gives you the ability to change your loadout and upgrade equipment in between stages.

The game’s visuals are also pretty good, albeit with a caveat. The character designs are fun and cartoony, and the animation is pretty good too. However, the stages themselves feel dull and repetitive – I really wish the same liveliness that was in the rest of the game extended to them.

Still, if you’re looking for a fun, fast-paced arcade-style game on the Switch, The Bug Butcher fits the bill pretty well. Definitely worth a look.

tl;dr – The Bug Butcher is an Arcade-style game designed in the style of the classic game Super Buster Bros. The game has good, fast-paced action, good variety in its gameplay, and fun character designs and animation. It’s a shame the levels themselves are so bland, though.

Grade: B+
