Review:
Sausage Sports Club is a party game where up to eight players play silly, floppy, cylinder-shaped animals competing in various contests.
There are 5 different kinds of games players can play, all with a simplified style – a soccer game, a capture-the-flag game, an arena-style “knock enemies into spikes” game, a variant on the arena game where you’re collecting coins, and a variant on the soccer game where you’re hitting a ball around and trying to paint the arena in your color of paint (slightly reminiscent of Splatoon).
This is a game that was clearly made with young kids in mind, and that shows in the gameplay. It is extremely chaotic, especially when you start to have more players on-screen. Often these games will devolve into largely luck-based slapfests, and often your success or failure will seem to have little to do with any great moves or strategy on your part. And yet, the game still manages to be fun.
A lot of this, admittedly, is due to the game’s wonderful presentation. Suffice it to say, this game’s characters are absolutely adorable, and the way they flop around is hilarious. The developers absolutely nailed down a look that fits the tone of this game, and it’s enhanced by great writing for the characters that had the adult players testing it out snickering with the absurd story.
That said, given the chaotic nature of Sausage Sports Club’s gameplay, this game is best left to short bursts or, more likely, left to the target audience of young kids. For those looking for silly, shallow action, this is an entertaining game, at least for a little while.
tl;dr – Sausage Sports Club is a Party Game where players take the role of floppy animals in one of five types of competitions. The action is shallow and chaotic, but seems like it’d be perfect for young kids, and the characters and writing are absolutely adorable and funny. This is absolutely not a game for serious gamers, but those looking for a light fun silly time in multiplayer might find it entertaining.
