Review:

Save Your Nuts is a Party Game where players take the role of one of a slew of animals trying to retrieve acorns and return them to a “Base” location while competing with an opposing player or players seeking to do the same.

In terms of presentation, this game isn’t terrible, but it’s far from great. The game uses colorful cel-shaded visuals that are appealing and mesh well with the zany theme, but are pretty low-poly and poorly-animated. This is backed by a similarly lighthearted and forgettable soundtrack. And while there’s nothing atrocious here, there’s absolutely not anything to justify the nearly 2GB of space the game demands of your Nintendo Switch’s memory.

In terms of gameplay, what’s here is painfully simple – grab a nut and return it to your home base. Holding a nut makes you slower and unable to attack. In a way, it’s kinda’ like a kooky, strange version of a basketball game.

Unfortunately, the gameplay here is about as deep as a puddle. There are power-ups you can acquire, but mostly it seems best to just chase the acorn and toss it in the direction of your base. There are a few alternate game types, but none of these really adds much to the gameplay. Hit detection for attacks is spotty at best, and the controls feel extremely loose. There is so little depth here and the controls are so lacking that you will tire of the game within minutes of playing it.

I came away from playing Save Your Nuts with one firm impression – this is a game that seems like it was created entirely because its creators were amused with the title, and designed enough gameplay around it to make it functional, but with the idea that the title alone would sell the game. Did you laugh at the title of this game? Good, you got that out of your system, because that’s about as much fun as you’ll get out of playing Save Your Nuts. Don’t bother buying it and spoiling what little enjoyment you got out of its existence.

tl;dr – Save Your Nuts is a Party Game where players compete to grab acorns and bring them back to a home base before the opposing team can. It’s shallow and controls poorly, and feels all the world like a game that only exists because its creators thought they could sell the thing on an amusing title alone. Don’t buy it.
