Scribbled, in some places called “Scribbed” because this game’s creator obviously doesn’t speak English very well (the game’s menus aren’t even in English), is an Action-Platformer released on Nintendo Switch in 2021. This game has you playing as a crudely hand-drawn swordsman fighting animals and jumping on platforms.
If you’re wondering if this game has a reason why its visuals are poorly-drawn pencil sketches beyond the creator’s inability or unwillingness to do better, I have none to point you to. There doesn’t seem to be anything thematically clever going on here, and it’s certainly not conducive to the gameplay – quite the opposite, it’s not only terribly ugly, but it makes everything hard to see, and makes it hard to distinguish characters from the background. In short, this game’s horribly ugly visuals aren’t a stylistic choice, they’re a testament to lacking skill and laziness. Oh, and the same also goes for the game’s soundtrack, which is repetitive low-fi synthetic garbage.
Perhaps the gameplay is inspired, at least? Ha, no. This is about as bare-bones boring and basic as it gets. Walk left to right, attack slow-moving enemies with a sword until they die, hop platforms. Ho-hum. The platforming doesn’t feel fun or engaging, the combat doesn’t feel fun or engaging… there’s just nothing here that’s worthwhile.
I cannot think of any good reason to play Scribbled. It looks ugly, sounds terrible, the gameplay isn’t fun, and it doesn’t do anything that isn’t done better in countless other Action-Platformers. Do not get this game.
tl;dr – Scribbled is an Action-Platformer with crudely hand-drawn visuals, and there’s not much else of note to say about it. It looks ugly, sounds awful, isn’t fun to play, and does absolutely nothing interesting or noteworthy in its gameplay. There is no good reason to get this game.
