Review:
Seeders is a Puzzle-Platformer originally released on PC in 2015 and ported to Nintendo Switch in 2019. Players take the role of one of a group of skateboarder kids investigating a local construction site and searching for a missing friend.
The presentation in this game is pretty bad, featuring 2D visuals that almost look like they were created in MS Paint. Everything is super-tiny, blocky, and generic-looking, and it seems like the only reason this game stars a skateboarder is so that its creator wouldn’t have to animate walking or jumping. These visuals are backed by a forgettable drum and acoustic guitar song that I’ll bet was a public domain work, since it doesn’t really seem to mesh well with the game’s theme or gameplay.
As for that gameplay, this game approaches the Puzzle-Platformer genre as if it was some small child getting really excited about a game that featured physics-based objects without really knowing what to do with it. Puzzles frequently make use of objects that are affected by gravity, but the game design here is so sloppy that properly utilizing them to do what the game is looking for will require a process of trial and error. You will be pausing to restart from the checkpoint a lot here.
This frustration would maybe be tolerable if this game did anything unique or interesting to deserve being given a bit of leeway to experiment, but there is nothing here I haven’t seen done countless times in other games, and done much better.
Players wanting a good Puzzle-Platformer on Nintendo Switch have plenty to choose from, so I can think of no good reason to get Seeders. This game is sloppily-made, looks ugly, and does nothing truly interesting or original. Skip it.
tl;dr – Seeders is a physics-based Puzzle-Platformer about a skateboarder investigating a construction site. This game is poorly-made, looks ugly, and brings nothing new or original to the genre. Skip it.
