Review:

Shadow Blade: Reload is an action-platformer that has you playing the acrobatic killing bad ass variety of ninja, with the game’s focus being on skilled, fast-paced platforming and quick action.

To this end, the game delivers a quality experience. The game is paced well, the platforming is pretty good, and the slicey dicey combat is fairly satisfying. There’s nothing especially new or extraordinary about the gameplay on display here, but what’s here is genuinely good.

The game looks pretty good, too. The game’s 2.5D levels are all well-designed, if a bit repetitive, the music is well-suited to the action… this is all-around a solid action game.

I have to get a few criticisms in, however. Firstly, the game really pushes its story, which… I mean, this is a pretty boring, generic story. You’ll be wanting to get past the game’s cutscenes so you can get back to the gameplay. Also, the Nintendo Switch version of the game is missing the level editor that was in other versions, which is a disappointing omission.

Still, if you’re looking for straightforward ninja action, Shadow Blade: Reload delivers. It doesn’t do anything especially new or unique, but what it does do, it does well.

tl;dr – Shadow Blade Reload is a straightforward ninja action game. It doesn’t do anything especially new or unique for the genre, but what it does do, it does (mostly) very well.

Grade: B
