Review:
She Remembered Caterpillars is a character-based Puzzle game that has you guiding multicolored creatures to exit points in a level.
Much of the gameplay in this game comes down to logic-ing out how to get each of the little critters through a series of color-coded gates and bridges – gates bar any critters of a matching color, and bridges only allow critters of a corresponding color. Making things more complicated is the presence of critters with a combination of colors, and the ability to combine multiple critters, mixing their colors temporarily. The result is a good deal of shuffling the critters around to ferry them around to a point where each can reach an exit. This is a fairly original concept done fairly well so it’s easy enough to understand and provides an adequate challenge.
As for the presentation, the game presents decently-animated hand-drawn graphics with a colorful but dark, slightly-surreal look to them, as if you’re looking at a zoomed-in view of an alien garden late at night, with the landscapes becoming more surreal as you progress. It’s certainly a unique and memorable presentation, if nothing else.
While playing She Remembered Caterpillars, I never felt anything that truly captured me, but there wasn’t anything here to really complain about here either, beyond the fact that the $12 asking price seems a bit high for what’s on offer here. It’s a solid puzzle game with a unique concept and a memorable presentation, and its subdued vibe will likely appeal to puzzle fans looking for a game to relax to. Worth a look.
tl;dr – She Remembered Caterpillars is a Puzzle game about moving color-coded creatures through a maze of color-coded gates and bridges. There’s nothing terribly exciting here, but this game does provide a nice, chill puzzle experience that fans of the genre should enjoy.
