Review:

Silence is a Graphic Adventure about a young boy and his sister who find themselves in the fantastical world of the stories they share together.

When it comes to the presentation for this game, I’m of two minds. On a technical and conceptual level, this game is gorgeous, with beautiful, imaginative environments full of detail and some highly-detailed characters as well. However, at the same time, the character design for those characters dips into the uncanny valley, and I found myself recoiling from the way they looked.

Something similar is going on with the story here. In theory, this is some interesting stuff, with a story about two children trapped in a bunker during an air raid and then pulled into a fantastical world with its own issues. However, it’s not properly explained if the world they’re in was dreamed up by the children, or if it’s a real place they somehow went to before. Even worse, these are two pretty terrible characters, and it’s hard to relate to them when they both seem invested in being as disagreeable and difficult as possible.

As for the gameplay, this is fairly typical Graphic Adventure territory, although it’s given a bit more variety by having multiple characters with unique abilities. It’s nothing that really reinvents the genre, but it’s not bad.

In the end, if you can get past the ugly, repellent characters, Silence is a solid entry in the Graphic Adventure genre, with some technically beautiful graphics. However, for me personally, I can’t see myself wanting to spend a full game with characters I don’t like and that I don’t want to look at.

tl;dr – Silence is a Graphic Adventure about two children trapped in a bunker during an air raid and transported to the magical world of their stories. This game is technically beautiful, but I personally find the character designs ugly, and the characters themselves unlikable. If you can get past that, I suppose you may find this to be a solid entry in the genre.
