Review:
Silent World is a Puzzle-Platformer with Horror elements released on PC and Nintendo Switch in 2020, about a fedora-wearing man who returns to his village after a nuclear holocaust to find it dark and overrun with mutants. Or at least that’s what the description says. To me, they look like some sort of ghoul and the place looks more medieval than post-apocalyptic, but then I didn’t bother to play through the whole thing. Ah, but I’m getting ahead of myself…
So yeah, graphically this game is pretty underwhelming, featuring 2D visuals that are not impressive or interesting in any way, paired with a subdued soundtrack to underline the game’s horror elements. Yeah, let me just say, I was not once scared by this game. Mostly, I was bored and frustrated.
See, Silent World is soooooooo agonizingly sloooooooooow… Your character moves at a snail’s pace, and perhaps this is to mask how limited your move set is, or how unimaginative this game’s puzzles are, but whatever the reason, it only makes this game torturous to play through. Its one somewhat innovative element, being able to briefly hide (in your hat, oddly) is one that has already been done, and better, in other, better, horror games, such as Detention.
It can’t even do what little it actually does here right, as the controls are finicky, and even so much as pushing a box or climbing a ladder will have you fighting the controller at times.
Yeah, that’s about all I have to say about Silent World. It’s ugly, slow, boring, slow, unoriginal, slow, tedious, slow, frustrating, slow, and did I mention how slow it is? Do not play this game.
tl;dr – Silent World is a Puzzle-Platformer with Horror elements that doesn’t do the Platforming well, doesn’t have interesting Puzzles, and isn’t scary. More than anything, this is an agonizingly slow game that is not worth bothering with.
