Review:

Sky Ride is a Third-Person Action game, although beyond that it’s hard to say exactly what it is, because the entire thing feels like a very very very early beta and I don’t really know what it was going for.

Players take the role of an anime girl on a hoverbike, and are given no instructions, no story or idea of what the gameplay is, you’re just expected to figure it out on your own.

Well, it doesn’t seem to be a racing game. Even though you’re on a vehicle and have a speed gauge, there’s no track and no one to race, and movement feels slow as molasses (despite what the gauge says).

There’s a bunch of paper lantern-like flying enemies here that swarm and attack you, and you do have some weapons, but there’s not really a good way to aim, nor a good way to evade said enemies.

Look, I can’t even figure out how I’m supposed to play this game. Not only are there no instructions and no tutorial, the game doesn’t even show you a control layout so you can see what the game’s buttons do. All I seem to be capable of is moving far too slowly around a 3D environment, making a few pathetic attempts at picking off enemies in the swarm, and then getting killed. And it’s not like I’m some novice player or anything.

Sky Ride is a terrible mess. The game feels unfinished and doesn’t even try to let players know just what the heck to do. It’s frustrating and unresponsive and honestly should have never been allowed to release on the eShop in this state.

tl;dr – Sky Ride is a Third-Person Action game that’s a broken, unfinished mess. I don’t know what this game was aiming for, but it was clearly released well before it reached anything worthwhile.

Grade: F
