Review:

Strikey Sisters is an Arcade-style game where you’re using a character to bat a magical ball off of bricks you’re trying to break, as well as enemies, much like Breakout, Alleyway, and Arkanoid. However, Strikey Sisters is a bit unique in that you’re actually striking the ball to send it toward the opposite end of the playfield, rather than passively deflecting it like in those other games. In addition, much as in Arkanoid, you’ll collect power-ups as they fall from above, although in this case those power-ups come in the form of “spells” you can cast.

It’s a fun spin on the genre, and it comes with a nice, cartoony presentation that works well for it, with expressive characters and a vibrant color palette.

However, there are problems as well. While you’re trying to get rid of the bricks (or defeat the boss) in each level, you will be absolutely hounded by swarms of enemies. You can take these enemies out with the ball, or with an attack if they wander close, but there’s almost no reason to do so – any time an enemy is killed they are immediately replaced with another one.

You’re pretty much forced to rely upon the magic spells to get things done, which leads to another frustration with the game, the completely out-of-place announcer shouting out the name of every power-up you acquire. It gets particularly absurd when you catch one power-up after another.

The end result just made Strikey Sisters feel like a mess, which is really unfortunate, because I felt like there was a quality game under all the frustration here, if only this game had gone through another round of playtesting before release.

tl;dr – Strikey Sisters is an Arcade-style brick breaker game that has you batting a magical ball at bricks and enemies in a style reminiscent of games like Arkanoid. Unfortunately, the way you’re incessantly swarmed by enemies as an annoying announcer repeatedly calls out over the action mars what could have been a really fun experience.
