Review:

Suguru Nature is a Puzzle game that plays similarly to Sudoku, but the mechanics are a bit different – players must fill the board with numbers without any two squares with the same numbers touching (including diagonals), and every section of the board must have squares numbering one through whatever the number of squares there are in that section. This game was released on the Nintendo Switch in 2020.

The presentation here is fairly simple, but it works. The background has various simple nature landscapes depicted in a minimalist design, and players can opt to choose a light or dark color scheme. This is paired with plunky background music that I suspect is public domain (I could swear I’ve heard it in another game before). It’s nothing special, but it gets the job done.

As for the puzzles themselves, it takes some getting used to how the logic works, but once it does, this is some pretty compelling stuff. However, the game is lacking in the features department. There’s no way to check to see if you’ve made an error, no touchscreen controls, and no option to select a different music or background (beyond the light/dark theme selection). For a game this simple and lacking in features, $10 for 90 puzzles seems a bit stingy, too.

Overall, Suguru Nature is still an enjoyable puzzle game, but the lack of features really hurts it and makes it a much lesser game than it could have been. Fans of Sudoku Puzzle games may still want to give it a look, but even for a fan of this sort of thing, I don’t think anyone’s going to be impressed.

tl;dr – Suguru Nature is a Puzzle game that’s similar to Sudoku, but with different rules that has you focusing on ensuring no two adjacent squares have the same number. It’s a compelling puzzle game, but it’s sorely lacking features and overpriced. If you enjoy a Sudoku-style puzzle this game may be worth trying out, but don’t expect much.
