Review:

Super Fowlst 2 is an Arcade-style game originally released on mobile devices in 2020 before being ported to PC and Nintendo Switch in 2021. This game has players bashing into enemies as a bouncy bird in a series of self-contained stages.

Super Fowlst 2’s presentation makes use of colorful pixel art visuals with a lot of personality to them, with a wacky lineup of enemies for players to plow through and simple environments that work well with the crazy frenetic action of the game. This is paired with a fun, bouncy synthesized soundtrack that also works well with this game’s high-energy gameplay.

When it comes to that gameplay, Super Fowlst 2 is kinda’ an interesting game that combines a bunch of different elements but isn’t quite like anything else I can recall playing. Players control their bird by tapping the ZL and ZR, bouncing the bird up in that direction in a way that’s a bit like Flappy Bird. However, where that game had you endlessly moving down a corridor trying to avoid obstacles, Super Fowlst 2 has you bouncing round in an enclosed area trying to smash into enemies. This makes for some pretty chaotic action that’s a fun challenge to try to estimate when to bounce to smash into enemies, all while avoiding dangerous obstacles and projectiles.

One of the great things about this game is how it keeps adding new elements to the gameplay – new enemy types, new obstacles to avoid, and even new gameplay elements like mech suits you can take from downed enemies for more power. The game even rewards play over time by allowing players to use in-game coins to unlock upgrades and alternate characters.

As far as negatives, I’d say that one of this game’s better qualities is also one of its worst flaws – your character in this game is really hard to control, and at times it can feel like you’re fighting the controls in this game just as much as you’re fighting enemies. Simply getting from one point to another point a short distance away can be surprisingly frustrating, requiring players to fiddle with the controls a lot.

Still, despite the frustration caused by its controls, Super Fowlst 2 is a fun and unique Arcade-style game that’s well worth playing. It’s full of personality and variety, and should make for a great lighthearted distraction to play in-between bigger, more substantial offerings on the Nintendo Switch.

tl;dr – Super Fowlst 2 is an Arcade-style game where player play as a bird trying to bash into enemies in enclosed areas. Trying to wrangle the controls bounces between fun and frustrating, but overall this is an enjoyably frenetic experience with a lot of personality and variety.
