Review:

Super Skelemania is a Metroidvania that puts you in the role of a skeleton exploring an alien planet. The game’s developer describes this as a “single sitting Metroidvania”, as it can be completed within an hour or two, and the game’s budget price reflects its short nature.

Super Skelemania has some positive things going for it. There’s a good feeling of progression here, as you find new power-ups pretty quickly. Also, the abilities you gain are fairly unique, giving your movement through the game a feel that’s not quite like other games in the genre.

On the other hand, this game’s hit detection is horrendous, with some enemies outright refusing to register that I’m hitting them. Also, the platforming in this game can get very tricky, with difficulty spikes that will discourage less skilled players. Also, the game’s repetitive hallways make the fact that you don’t start out with a map particularly frustrating.

The pixel art visuals in this game are nothing especially extraordinary. It works, but doesn’t do much more than that. The sound is subdued and not really all that noteworthy.

In the end, Super Skelemania has some elements that make it worthy of a look. However, with there being so many great Metroidvanias on the Switch, the game’s flaws, its difficulty spikes, and its short length, all combine to make this a game that really only veterans of the genre should seek out.

tl;dr – Super Skelemania is a short, budget Metroidvania that has you exploring an alien world as a skeleton. The game has some unique movement abilities that make it stand out, but its horrendously poor hit detection and uneven difficulty make it hard to recommend to anyone outside of the most diehard genre fans.
