Review:
(Note: This game is included in the Awesome Platformers Bundle (5 in 1) along with Spirit Roots, Steampunk Tower II, Super Cyborg, and Sweet Witches.)
Swaps and Traps is a challenging platformer where players try to get to the exit in each stage while windows of the stage have been moved around, leaving you to try to anticipate where your movements will lead.
It’s a decent concept with some good potential, but the execution here leaves something to be desired. This game is actively trying to mess you up, and whenever you accidentally mess up and touch a hazard, you’re forced to restart the level again, which makes for all sorts of frustration.
On top of this, while the game’s visuals are decent if a bit generic, the constant barrage of annoying sound clips this game uses made me get sick of this game really quick. If I have to hear the game’s villain say “Oooops!” one more time… ugh, no.
It’s a pity Swaps and Traps stumbles so hard in the execution, because the core concept here is good. However, there are just too many frustrations and annoyances here for this to be an enjoyable game.
tl;dr – Swaps & Traps is a platformer that has you trying to get to the exit when sections of the screen have been switched around. It’s a good concept with terrible execution, that forces you to repeat levels after making a mistake, and keeps replaying the same annoying sound clips over and over. This game is just too frustrating to be enjoyable.
