Review:

(Note: This game is included in the Awesome Platformers Bundle (5 in 1) along with Spirit Roots, Steampunk Tower II, Super Cyborg, and Swaps and Traps.)

Sweet Witches is a Puzzle-Platformer with Arcade sensibilities where you go screen by screen, walking over every bit of dirt to plant flowers while avoiding enemies. You are limited in your ability to fight enemies, with a melee attack that usually only stuns enemies and only the occasional power-up that allows you to permanently rid yourself of one of them, so for the most part you’ll be avoiding them and fleeing using the ability to construct a ladder anywhere you are.

With the focus on avoiding enemies and walking over every stretch of the level, the game ends up playing similarly to titles like Lode Runner and Burgertime, giving much the same feeling of struggling to reach that final block you need to walk on to clear the screen before the enemies get to you.

The game manages to find new and interesting ways to challenge players too, introducing different enemies such as bunnies that can eat your flowers and force you to retrace your steps, and different environmental hazards, like portal doorways that need to be used to access every part of the level. Even your own power-ups can prove to be a challenge if used unwisely, such as bear traps that are just as capable of putting an end to you as they are of taking out enemies.

The game has a good mix of features here, too. It’s really nice that the game includes a co-op mode, and having a competitive multiplayer mode on top of that really gives this game some good replayability once you’ve grown tired of the story mode.

The game’s presentation is cute and fun, with a cartoony Halloween-themed aesthetic that works well for the game. I suppose my biggest complaint here is the sound – this game seems oddly quiet, and it dampens the fun a bit. With a game having a presentation and gameplay that seems focused on fun and fast pacing, it’s a bit odd that the characters are oddly mute, and their movements are often sneaky-quiet.

Still, if you’re looking for a decent fast-paced arcadey Puzzle-Platformer that you can play with friends, Sweet Witches is definitely worth a look.

tl;dr – Sweet Witches is an Arcade-y Puzzle-Platformer in the same vein as Lode Runner and Burgertime, where you’re trying to plant flowers throughout the entire level while avoiding enemies. It’s a solid game with some good multiplayer co-op and competitive options, but it could have used a bit more work getting the sound in line with the energy the rest of the game has.
