Review:

Putty Pals is a platformer where players control two characters, either via co-op or controlling both at the same time themselves, and where much of the game’s challenge comes from coordinating the characters’ actions.

This works out to be pretty simple in theory – Left stick and left shoulder buttons control one character, right stick and right shoulder buttons control the other. In practice, this can feel like one of those “rub your tummy while you pat your head” sort of situations as you try to get the two to work together.

While this game is available both on the Nintendo Switch and the PC, the Switch version seems ideally suited to the game, where one controller can split into two. Playing co-op is as simple as handing a friend one of the controllers to split the responsibility, although you’ll now have to coordinate things with another person, which can make for some fun interaction.

Putty Pals has a very basic presentation, and it wouldn’t surprise me to find that some of the visuals used here came from stock images. There’s nothing especially bad here, but it does seem a bit amateurish. At the very least the game has some personality in the sound department, with the characters making appropriately cute noises.

The game can get a little repetitive at times, and there’s nothing truly revolutionary about it, but it does make it a point to add in new ways to explore the game’s mechanic at regular intervals.

All in all, Putty Pals is a refreshingly enjoyable little Platformer with good co-op potential. Definitely worth a look.

tl;dr – Putty Pals is a Platformer where players control two characters at the same time, or split up the characters between two players. It’s a decent game that’s worth a look, even if it doesn’t do anything especially significant to push the genre forward.
