Review:

Puzzle Book is a game where you are piecing together a jigsaw puzzle. That’s about as mundane and uncomplicated as it gets, so that mainly leaves the question of how well it’s done in this game.

This game features only 34 different puzzles, which isn’t very much, but that’s somewhat forgivable since the price tag is so low. Players can choose how many pieces each puzzle will separate into, from 6 to 60. Even 60 puzzle pieces seems a bit low for a jigsaw puzzle, but I suppose you could write that off to this being a kid’s game

The artwork itself varies wildly. On the one hand, you have 15 puzzles that are gorgeous fantasy artwork, hand-painted, imaginative, and varied. However, all of the rest of the game’s art is simple, cartoony stuff like you might see in a mediocre coloring book. While you piece them together, you’ll hear accompanying music suited to the type of puzzle design you chose that’s… okay enough, I suppose.

Unfortunately, the actual mechanics of this game are needlessly frustrating. Firstly, the splash screen showing you the controls disappears automatically and there’s no way to bring it back without restarting the game. Secondly, players are only given a small portion of the puzzle pieces to look through at any given time. The joy of searching through the pile of pieces and finding the one piece you were looking for? You won’t get that here. Want to try to top your best time? You can’t – your progress isn’t being timed.

The creators of Puzzle Book had one simple job, to take the most basic, simple puzzle game concept and translate it to the screen. Instead, we have a limited number of puzzles, a limited number of options, and what few features you’d expect to find in a game like this are missing. Even for the low asking price, this game isn’t worth it.

tl;dr – Puzzle Book is a game that has you constructing one of 34 jigsaw puzzles. Unfortunately, this game is seriously lacking in options and severely limits the player to the point of killing any fun this sort of game can offer, and it is so content-poor that it’s not even worth its low price tag.
