Review:

Q-YO Blaster is a Bullet Hell Shmup where you’ll be fighting a lot of bug-themed enemies. It’s strange, with odd characters on both sides of the fighting, but the core formula is a tried-and-true Shmup through and through.

The game does shake things up a bit in between rounds, giving you the ability to choose how to upgrade your character, but largely there’s not much here that makes this game stand out gameplay-wise. It’s not great, it’s not bad, but overall it’s pretty good.

However, that’s gameplay. When it comes to the graphics and presentation, this game kinda’ goes crazy, mixing in old-school 16 bit-styled graphics with some decent animation and absurd character designs. Your heroes include a hamster nuclear physicist, a dog strapped to a rocket, and a Terminator-style android, to name a few. Enemies are just as silly, with the emphasis on the bug theme for most of it (even if it means a cockroach strapped to a rocket for some reason).

In the end, Q-YO Blaster is a solid Shmup that does little to shake up the genre, but remains memorable thanks to its unique look.

tl;dr – Q-YO Blaster is a Bullet Hell Shmup. It’s a decent game that plays well, but the most memorable thing about it are its absurd heroes and oddball bug-themed enemies. Definitely a solid pick for fans of the genre.
